Stunning, Spiritual Television

Where else do you see this kind of television programming? A mainstream, major media personality. Some of today’s most popular spiritual leaders. A long conversation, about living your life, what it means to be human. Awakening us to our spiritual reality.

We are more than our fights over Obama and Romney. We are more than our circumstances – working or unemployed, rich or poor – and more than our identity  – male, female, married, single, parent, sibling, friend, enemy.

We are not limited by these things – yet they are often the most real and present ways in which we relate to the world. Spiritual television doesn’t ignore those aspects of our lives – and neither should we. These programs include them, and expand our perception to something more that we know we are and that we in our best moments hope to be true.

In an interview, Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh says he does not watch television; if anything really important happens, someone will tell him. “You don’t have to listen to the news three times a day.” (editor’s note: in fact, that will probably detract from any spiritual feelings you may have had!)

Watching these shows, you will have a glimpse – at least a small glimpse – of who you really are:  a spiritual being, having a human experience.

Where to watch it:

On OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network (on cable, satellite, or online):

  • Super Soul Sunday – conversations with Deepak Chopra, Thich Nhat Hanh, Ram Dass, and more.
  • Master Class – surprisingly insightful contemplations from the unexpected public figures, including Jon Bon Jovi, Jane Fonda, and more.
  • Oprah’s Lifeclass – instruction from Deepak Chopra, Tony Robbins and more
  • Oprah’s Next Chapter – her trip to India contained some of the most intimate and insightful views into the culture

Undercover God

What if God were one of us…?

Recently my husband and I were waiting at a street corner for the light to change, and a panhandler came up to us. My husband reached into his pocket and gave the man a dollar bill, then turned to me and said, you never know – that could be God.

It is a question often asked: what if God was here on earth, walking among us. Is it the panhandler? The mother and child? My dog with the beautiful retinas?

And then it struck me.

When I think of the miracles in my life, how I have been richly rewarded, attracting beautiful life experiences and wonderful people into my life, I wonder what if I am God — a Goddess in the Real World — but I am so deep undercover that I have come to believe my own story, that I am just the lady on my driver’s license.

Perhaps we are all God, on a deep undercover mission, and we’ve gone so far undercover we’ve almost forgotten what our mission is?

What if you were God? What are you really here to do?

The Dog With The Beautiful Retinas

Recently, my dog was not well, and I was dissatisfied with our usual vet’s response. Maybe some medicine, maybe it will get better in a few days, maybe some tests. Either way, the prescription was pretty much to just put up with it.

So we took him to a holistic vet. As she examined him, she made notes on how to change his diet, what supplements and homeopathic treatments would help, and then she said something I didn’t expect. “Your dog has beautiful retinas”. She looked deeply into his eyes and continued, “Have you ever looked at his retinas? They’re beautiful — sort of iridescent, like a rainbow.”

If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then my dog having beautiful retinas struck me as a dog with a beautiful soul.

How often do we get so wrapped up in our circumstances or conditions that we forget who we are, deep in our soul? Then life focuses around the external, and our options are to try to fix or change anything that is not wanted. Thus the vet says, maybe medicine, maybe tests, maybe just put up with it like everyone else, some things can’t be fixed, or maybe it will get better in a few days. There’s no power in that. That’s not how a God/Goddess lives in the real world.

As the beautiful retinas observation taught me, when we look within and see the beauty of the soul, we are reminded of who we are. Then, intuitively (and possibly with a little outside expertise) we can find our way to the next best expression of who we really are and the joyous abundance with which we deserve to live.

The minute we walked out of that vet’s office, we both were thriving. We have a new reality into which we are now living. The condition of my dog’s wellness is transformed. I am uplifted and returned to that sense of “life is good” that is possible when we live as a God/Goddess In The Real World.

Interesting Note: Every time I went to write “dog” in this story, it came out “god”.

Richly Rewarded

I Need A Job” update: Previously, this Goddess In The Real World had lost her job (well, actually, she was told it was over). So, this Goddess declared she is not just going to try to get any old “job” and not going to wait for “them” to choose her. She is going to be richly rewarded in abundant, happy, satisfying ways, for doing what she loves.

Two weeks later, she gets a great job.

That is the difference that living as a Goddess In The Real World makes. Yes, we are living in the real world, so our problems may be ordinary – get a job, pay the bills, be healthy, be happy. But that ordinary world becomes extraordinary when we step into living as who we really are.

Because, really… who wouldn’t want to have a God/Goddess working for them?

Read the “I Need A Job” Transformation story here.

I Need A Job

I’m looking for a job… I need a job… That’s a “real world” statement that would never be uttered by a God/Goddess.

In the morning I walk the dog, look at the colors of the leaves, remnants of flowers. I pass people walking along, by themselves, toward the train station. People wait on the platform, and get into the first train that comes along. They are going to work.

Why do we work — I mean, what is this thing we call work, anyway?

I know we work to get money — but think about it… how much of our life we turn over in pursuit of a paycheck. Indeed, it seems we have no choice, unless we already happen to have money and don’t need to work.

In those flashes of higher consciousness when we know this is not all there is — those moments of profound, spiritual connection, or just the sense that there is something else, the “more” between heaven and earth than is dreamt of in Horatio’s philosophy — in those moments we know we are not meant to dwell each day at a desk, to spend our days and late into our evenings away from our beloveds, wearing clothes we do not want to wear (do you know anyone who wears their work clothes on their day off?), and working on priorities that are not our own.

One of the stories I shall tell here is that I am looking for a job. In fact, I am creating what I am here on earth for — how I shall contribute my unique talents (rather than merely fit in and conform). I shall discover even as I recount it here, how to live from my highest self and make the difference that is uniquely mine AND pay the bills to have the life I want — richly rewarded.

One approach to job-hunting is career reinvention. Asking yourself, if you could do anything at all — if money was no object — what would you be doing? That’s a God/Goddess question. Another approach, usually considered to be more practical, is to scour the internet and your social network to “job hunt” and “interview” — i.e. find a job out there and then try to get Them to choose You to fill it. Decidedly not God/Goddess-like.

So, I am not just searching for a job — I am seeking to create a new paradigm for how we live and who we are.

Thank you for joining me!

Hello world!

There is a growing movement to discover and express our divine nature – our Self, our Soul, our Source.

Whereas in the past, one might have retreated to a mountaintop, nowadays we are more practical – or at least I am, anyways.

We need to reboot the way we live our lives. A way to be our true self while living our real life. While paying the bills, walking the dog, raising the kids, looking for work. Admiring a sunset, a flower, brilliant yellow leaves against a bright blue sky, looking deeply into the eyes of the one we love.

Deeply profound and divinely practical.

This is the story of a Goddess In The Real World. The journey to embrace our True Identity. All while being a successful functioning human being in the here and now.

Step into living as who you really are. You too can be a God or Goddess in the real world.
